Having a full head of hair defines many things for a woman - personality, attractiveness, success, health and social status, just to name a few. Losing hair can have a negative effect on both a woman’s self-esteem and her social life. Many women feel that when they have hair loss, they've lost a large part of who they are. The good news is that Transitions Hair has clinically proven hair loss treatment for women so that you can get both your hair and your confidence back, while wiping years off your age. If you’re looking for female hair loss treatment, call Transitions on 1300 427 778.
There are many reasons for hair loss in women. Some factors are:
- Hormonal imbalances
- Disorders such as trichotillomania
- Certain prescription drugs
- Extremely tight hair braiding and inappropriate use of hair extensions
The most common type of hair loss in women is female pattern thinning hair, or Androgenetic Alopecia. This constitutes over 85% of all female hair loss and is hormonally related. In some women, the body’s production of Dihydrotestoterone (DHT) builds up around the hair follicle and eventually kills it, like salt water to a tree (fig 1).
Androgenetic Alopecia is typically hereditary, so it's quite likely that other people in your family have experienced it, or are likely to. We call this 'Generational Hair Loss'.
Example of Mother and Daughter experiencing Androgenetic Hair Loss (before and after Hair Restoration Treatment called Re-Allusions):
Some causes of female hair loss – Menopause
Hair loss in women often occurs later in life as a result of menopause. The onset of menopause causes a decrease in the production of oestrogen. Without oestrogen to produce testosterone-blocking enzymes, testosterone can be freely converted to DHT on the scalp. The result is a shorter hair growth cycle, finer hair, and eventually, hair loss for women. This is a time in all women's lives that many things are changing. However, make a change for the better - don’t just accept the hand that life has dealt you; at Transitions, we believe life isn't about waiting for the right circumstances, but rather creating our own. We have helped thousands of women experience the benefits of having great hair again through our hair restoration and hair replacement techniques. Pregnancy or a hysterectomy can also trigger female hair loss and thinning hair. At these times the male hormone tends to have more of an effect because there's less oestrogen in a woman's body, thus causing those hairs that are affected by genetic hair loss to regress.
After pregnancy, genetic hair loss can be triggered, although it is more common for a woman to experience temporary diffuse hair loss (thinning hair all over the scalp) three to six months after delivering a child. After such a time her hair will normally grow back.
Crash dieting, or after acute illnesses, such as an acute infection or extreme stress can also cause women to begin losing hair. In most cases (except after menopause), hair regrowth will resume after you return to normal diet or health. Some medications may also cause hair loss or thinning hair; again, hair regrowth will often ensue after completing the course of medication.
The Cause of Alopecia Areata
Alopecia Areata is generally understood to be an autoimmune problem, when the body's immune system begins attacking some of the cells in the skin or hair causing baldness. People who experience Alopecia Areata usually have a genetic predisposition for the problem. Usually it is triggered by an aberrant immune response. This could be anything from a viral or bacterial infection, a vaccination, stress, or trauma to the skin, to exposure to a foreign substance not usually encountered.
Some leading researchers in Australia are developing a new theory about the cause of Alopecia Areata. They feel that everyone may have a tendency towards Alopecia Areata, but the condition is triggered only when various genetic or environmental factors occur simultaneously. As a result, some people are more susceptible to losing hair through Alopecia Areata than others. For example, some need only one or two factors to trigger Alopecia symptoms, whereas others may need seven to eight. This means that it is unlikely for the latter group to ever experience Alopecia because there is a small chance they will experience all seven to eight factors at one time. However, there is a higher probability for the former group to experience Alopecia.
Trichotillomania is a known obsessive-compulsive disorder, which involves the pulling out of one's own hair. This condition is usually seen in pre-teen and teenage girls and is often unconscious to the individual. This type of hair loss can affect women of all ages. To properly diagnose this condition, a biopsy can be performed by a competent dermatologist through microscopic analysis of the ends of the short hairs; the ends of the new hairs are pointed whereas broken hairs have uneven ends.
Hair follicles are remarkably resilient and it would take years of pulling for permanent damage to occur, although if repeated pulling continues, permanent loss of hair may result. Trichotillomania can appear as Alopecia Areata and is, in fact, often misdiagnosed as such. New medications and treatments are available for the condition.

While most women do not experience baldness, many succumb to female hair loss. Thinning hair across the front and top of the scalp, whilst retaining a front hairline is most common. If you want to feel like the confident woman you once were, Transitions Hair offers female hair loss treatment that will show results.

"I can't believe I'm doing this, but it's important. I have gradually been losing my hair since my late teens and it has knocked my confidence immensely. I always look at women with beautiful thick hair and think 'why the hell couldn't I have hair like that?' I used to, it used to be so long and thick but most of it has fallen out now. Now I barely have any. I know that there are a lot of women out there suffering from the same issue (1 in 3 in fact) and I want you to know that there is help available for you if you want it. I have just spent the last few hours with the most amazing woman who has put this solution together for me and I feel like a new person. I can't wait to start learning styling tricks again, I'm so excited!"
"Just a big thank you Andrew. My confidence is back, and I just feel great since Anneliese shaped and transformed the crown extension to become my new look. She took the time to listen to me, she wasn't in a hurry, and the result is one very happy woman. Excellent!!!"
"I now wear a large topette of human European hair. It feels beautiful to run my fingers through! My hairdresser says it has been lovely hair to cut and style. She doesn’t have to manipulate its texture or direction. The colour looks very natural and I am totally confident that the fact that it does not grow from my scalp is undetectable among the public and my large workplace.
I hardly comb it which sounds odd but due to the quality it does not need a lot of work on it.
I know it is superior as I have worn other topettes of asian or indian hair origin for 10 years. I feel more psychologically and physically connected to this piece as it is closer to my European genes. I feel amazing in it – the hair I have always wanted!"

"What I've really enjoyed about working with Transitions is they're really friendly. You get to try on the wigs and see what it will look like. With my other ones, you had to pick out a colour and that's it; you wait for that to come. "
“It’s very reliable in those ‘intimate’ situations. I know a lot of girls in the online community worry about that. You don't want to have this great hair solution that is going to fall down on you at the last hurdle.”
I bought my toppette in Sydney about two months ago, and it has been life changing. Sure, it takes some time getting used to psychologically, but I am confident that I will not go back to relying on my bio hair now - it was just too stressful.

"I’m really thankful to have met the people at Transitions. They understood what I was going through with my hair loss and were very empathetic to my needs - it was quite different from other places I had visited. Most importantly, I love what they have done for my hair, it looks great! I feel so much more confident. I would have no trouble in recommending Transitions to anyone. I wish I had of visited them first!"
