There are always new hair loss treatments popping up, claiming to regrow hair and it’s natural to be sceptical about them. Here at Transitions Hair we’ve done the hard work for you and researched this new hair loss treatment that claims to regrow hair by drawing the patient’s own blood then injecting it into the scalp. As crazy as that sounds, the studies are showing very promising results so this bizarre yet innovative hair loss treatment might just be the next big thing in the search for a cure for hair loss!

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Other cosmetic treatments using this same procedure have been available for a while now, in particular the facial made famous by Kim Kardashian. The procedure involves injecting the blood into the face to rejuvenate and slow down the aging process.

This procedure has become so popular and effective that cosmetic doctors have now started using this ground-breaking technique on men and women experiencing hair loss and thinning hair to help stimulate hair growth.

Hair Restoration with PRP

Through use on the scalp, this hair loss treatment can apparently stimulate dormant hair follicles and encourage them to start growing again. It is a potential hair loss treatment for both men and women who suffer from any type of hair loss; whether through genetic predisposition, hormonal issues, stress, or any forms of alopecia.

How does it work?

This hair loss treatment takes around an hour and a half and involves taking four syringes of the patient’s blood and placing it in a centrifuge (a rotating piece of medical equipment) to spate the plasma from the red blood cells. Local anaesthetic is injected into the scalp to ensure the area in numb before the scalp in stimulated with a dermaroller and the PRP syringes injected into the scalp – primarily focussing on areas of concern.

When will I see results?

The patient will then need to use the dermaroller every day for around a month following this hair loss treatment. It is quite common not to see any changes for six weeks and then you should start to see hair restoration and regrowth take place. However optimum results will usually be seen three months after your first PRP hair loss treatment (it will then be decided whether or not a second PRP hair loss treatment is required).

Hair Transplants and the PRP Hair Loss Treatment

The PRP hair loss treatment can be a standalone procedure but can also be used in combination with a hair transplant. In fact, these two hair loss treatments combined provide optimum results for hair loss and thinning hair.
