A group of twelve extraordinarily brave women have recently caught our attention as they ‘bare all’ in hopes of raising awareness and much needed funds for the charity Alopecia UK through the sales of a very unique calendar.
Alopecia Sufferers bare all in Calendar Girl Style Shoot
Aside from their bravery, eleven of these women have something very distinctive in common – they all suffer from the hair loss condition known as alopecia. These women have boldly gone where no alopecia sufferer has gone before, quite literally baring everything (hair loss and all) for a 2015 charity calendar with the aim of raising awareness for alopecia.
What is Alopecia?
Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss that can occur for a variety of reasons. The direct cause of alopecia is unknown however do know that alopecia is an autoimmune disease; causing the body’s own immune system to attack itself, in this case the hair follicles, which trigger either patchy or total hair loss (alopecia totalis).
Organiser Victoria Short says she jokingly suggested the idea of a nude-bald calendar shoot and to her surprise eleven other ladies agreed! A nude calendar is certainly a bold move to raise awareness for alopecia and we commend these ladies immensely for their hard work and dedication to the cause.
Alopecia UK Charity
Alopecia UK is a small charity which offers information, support and guidance to those affected by alopecia and hair loss. Any funds received from the calendar project will help to further their work in helping those who may be struggling with alopecia.
