James Nesbitt has always been honest with the public about the dread of losing his hair and has openly discussed his hair transplants in a video testimonial for the Hair Restoration Blackrock clinic in Dublin.

“Several years ago, I began losing my hair and like a lot of men it was a major concern to me, in fact it was practically an obsession. But, also I’m an actor so I’m in the public eye a lot and I really felt that my hair loss could affect my career prospects.’ Nesbitt was so worried that his baldness would affect his career, that he wore a thick black wig for his lead role in 2007 BBC drama Jekyll.

After a great amount of thought Nesbitt made the decision to visit Hair Restoration Blackrock, Dublin in Ireland where he had a consultation with the surgeon who told him that he was a good candidate for the hair transplant surgery.

“Since then I have had two hair transplants and I am very pleased with the results. In fact, I’d go as far as to say they’ve changed my life.’

Also in the video, Nesbit shared how his new hairline has attracted quite a bit of media attention so he has decided to use his positive experience of hair transplantation to help other men who are suffering from hair loss.

Before undergoing the two transplants, the actor was quite open about his obsession with trying to stop his receding hairline. In 2001 he admitted taking vitamin tablets in an attempt to slow his hair loss, and eight years ago he said he was using a lotion to try to stimulate his follicles. Although he said the sensation made his scalp feel like it was ‘going to explode’, he also added that “It opens the pores of the scalp to encourage new growth. It’s ridiculous, but it’s horrible going bald. Anyone who says it isn’t is lying.’

Considering a Hair Transplant?

The hair transplantation process involves removing hair from the back of the head, separating the hair follicles into individual follicular units, and implanting them on the front and top of the scalp. Careful relocation and implantation creates a relatively permanent look of fullness and thickness.
